Primary education is an important stage in children’s development. As well as giving them the essential tools for learning, primary education is about children experiencing the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative in all areas of the curriculum and developing their self-confidence as learners and maturing socially and emotionally.

At IAA, we follow closely the English National Curriculum, which guides and monitors the children’s progress through three very important stages of development:

      English National Curriculum
        IAA Classes

      Foundation Stage  Reception
Key Stage 1  Reception 2 and Grade 1
      Key Stage 2   Grades 2 - 5

The English National Curriculum highlights three core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science. There are also a number of foundation subjects: Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Design and technology (DT), History, Geography, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education (PE) and Personal Social and Health Education and Citizenship. It is our aim to provide a broad and relevant curriculum and many of the topics have been adapted to the context of Jordan. Every effort is made to ensure children are able to access the curriculum at their appropriate level and that a variety of teaching strategies are employed to make learning enjoyable and worthwhile.

Many of the subjects listed are integrated and taught through cross-curricular links to enhance the children’s understanding and enjoyment.

In addition to this, the English National Curriculum is ‘enhanced’ by the study of Arabic, Social Studies in Arabic (SSA) and Religion, all of which are taught in Arabic.

The timetable is based on 40 (x40 minute) lessons. Ten minutes is also set aside at the beginning of each day for registration and pastoral time.

Each grade is self-contained in classrooms where children are mainly taught by their class teachers in English. Each class also has the help of a teaching assistant. Specialist teachers take classes for Music, PE, Modern Foreign Language (Grade 5 only), and Drama. There are also a large Arabic team of teachers who teach Arabic, SSA and Religion.
